Transparent Climate Policy Engagement – the Role of Governments, Finance, and Business

Mr. Abe joined Ricoh in 1992. After working in the Sales Division, he was transferred to the Environmental Department in 1999, where he was in charge of environment communication. In April 2008, he was seconded to KEIZAI DOYUKAI (Japan Association of Corporate Executives) and engaged in Global Environment Committee activities. Since 2016, as General Manager of the Sustainability Division, he has been responsible for developing and promoting the company-wide sustainability strategy and has been involved in the declaration of participation in RE100, Science-based Target accreditation and integration of SDGs/ESGs into the corporate management strategy. He is also one of the deputy representatives of the Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (JCLP).

Based in Tokyo, Aina leads LGIM's stewardship efforts in Japan. Working with the global team, she engages directly with companies, regulators, and other investors on a range of issues, including climate change, biodiversity, board governance, and diversity. Prior to joining LGIM in 2019, she was a consultant at PwC Japan where she helped build the firm’s corporate sustainability advisory practice. Aina serves as the Deputy Chair of the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA) Japan Working Group. She also sits on the SASB Standards Advisory Group and represents LGIM at organisations such as the JCLP and the 30% Club Japan Investor Group. She is a licensed CPA in the USA.

In March 2019, the Financial Services Agency of Japan (JFSA) decided to create the position of Chief Sustainable Finance Officer (CSFO), to plan and coordinate on promotion of sustainable finance internally and globally. Upon its creation he was appointed, and has been serving, as the first CSFO.

In this capacity, he covers a wide range of issues concerning sustainable finance which include, among other things, aligning private finance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting TCFD disclosures by business corporations and financial institutions alike, and also acting as Co-chair of the Transition Finance Working Group at the International Platform on Sustainable Finance (IPSF) and Vice-chair of the Impact Investing Roundtable co-organized by GSG National Advisory Board of Japan and JFSA.

Ms. Miyake is the Executive Manager of ESG Strategy and Solution Department at Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank and the Co-Chair of Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership (JCLP), a coalition of over 230 businesses advancing decarbonization in the country She has been heavily involved in lobbying activities not only to the government and policy makers since taking the JCLP Co-chair role in 2019 , but also to various industry players and also to the public. In 2022, she served as a member of High Level Expert Group on the Net Zero Emissions Commitments of Non-State Entities convened by Secretary General Guterres. Prior to the current role, Ms. Miyake serve d as the Chief Sustainability Officer of Aeon Co.,Ltd., a retail conglomerate in Japan. Aeon was the first retailer in Japan to commit to net zero by 2050 in 2018 and has always been the forerunner in the Sustainability field .

Julio leads the Public Integrity Division at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). He regularly advises countries in the design and implementation of policies that ensure public integrity and prevent corruption. He has contributed to the design of analytical frameworks for the creation of public integrity systems, building a culture of integrity and ensuring accountability. He also has expertise in addressing corruption in public procurement and mega infrastructure projects, as well as promoting transparency and integrity in political processes.

Of Italian and Argentinian nationality, Julio obtained his PhD in International Law on anti-corruption at the Graduate Institute of International Studies.

Dr Ben Caldecott is the founding Director of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Group at the University of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. At the University of Oxford, he is the inaugural Lombard Odier Associate Professor of Sustainable Finance, the first ever endowed professorship of sustainable finance, and a Supernumerary Fellow at Oriel College, Oxford. Ben is also the founding Director and Principal Investigator of the UK Centre for Greening Finance & Investment (CGFI), established by UK Research and Innovation in 2021 as the national centre to accelerate the adoption and use of climate and environmental data and analytics by financial institutions internationally. He is a Visiting Professor at the Wealth Management Institute in Singapore.

Since 2018 Tom Dodd has been team leader for sustainability reporting in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA). He started his career in the European Commission in 1996, managing humanitarian aid to various African countries. After four years in the European Commission Delegation in Nicaragua, he then worked on EU policy on corporate social responsibility, and subsequently on the bioeconomy and bio-based industries. He studied at the University of Edinburgh and at the College of Europe in Bruges.

Monica oversees the research and stakeholder engagement in Japan at InfluenceMap. Previously, Monica was a researcher at the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) focusing on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hydrogen policy. She holds a Double Masters in Environmental Policy and Energy from Sciences Po and International Relations from Peking University, and a BA in Environment and Information Studies from Keio University.
